Ann Currier M.A.

I’m Ann Currier and my two main areas of specialization are transgender issues and schizophrenia. I’m very passionate about working with the transgender community. Whether you are trying to figure out where you fit underneath the transgender umbrella, or you have accepted what’s going on and ready to do something about it, I can help. I understand that, most of the time, when someone has made their way onto the sofa across from me, that person has struggled with gender issues for quite some time. My first goal in therapy is to provide support. My second goal is to assist you in developing a plan. I can write referrals for HRT and GCS and, if you are ready, I won’t make you jump through hoops to get it. I assist with other issues such as coming out (to friends, family, work, and/or school), knowing resources, relationship issues, family counseling, and “fantalusions” (fears based on shame and resentment). I’m also fortunate enough to work with clients who suffer from schizophrenia. I can assist you with coping with symptoms, medication management, developing structure in your day, and living your best and fullest life. I think what makes me stand out most against other mental health professionals is that I don’t treat this illness like a death sentence. Lots of people with schizophrenia live functional, happy, and successful lives. I can help you do it. In addition, loved ones of people with schizophrenia need support too and I love being the person who can provide that. Caregivers, especially, need support, advice, resources, and understanding. I encourage family therapy, as well as individual therapy, for all those affected by this illness. While these are my main areas of specialization, it’s not all I do. As someone who has personally suffered from depression and anxiety, I have overcome both without the use of medication and can help you do the same. Whether you are suffering from bipolar disorder, or just want some help developing a realistic plan to lose weight, I am ready and able to assist you. I look forward to meeting with you.
